Model - Crane

I have created the model of a crane because during the trailer James Bond is fighting and chasing another guy, within this scene James bond jumps from one crane to another. The image below is the design look of the crane -

This crane was fairly simple to create as the majority of the crane is made of cylinders, so most of this model was just about creating and manipulating cylinders and other shapes into place.

I had to research a little into this because i had no real idea what type of crane i needed or what they looked like properly but after the research was done i had a fair good idea of what was needed and i started creating the crane by creating the verticle part of the crane so i knew how big i wanted it also the crane isnt complete, e.g. the base isnt there because the trailer wont show it so i thought it would be a waste of time creating something you dont see.

After i created the verticle part of the crane i made the horizontal part, this was pretty much done by just making two boxes and setting them a certain distance apart, i then made some more cylinders and set them to the size of the gap between the boxes. Next i faced them into the middle, between four of the cylinder e.g. four cylinders with the tops meeting at the center point between them, once this was done i then cloned the cylinders so that they were exactly the same.

Finally i added little parts of the crane, such as the controllers box and the boxes and cables that are used to pick things up. To create the controllers box i simply added a box and using the materails function i gave it a glass look, then added some small boxes to give it the look of being held together by the boxes.

Model - Cards

Another model i have created is a pair of playing cards, the reason i choose to model these were because i am not very experienced with 3D studio max and this was my first attempted at modelling anything out of the tutorials. The reason i am going to use this in the trailer is because it shows that the film is actually themed around a game of poker and that the title "Casino Royale" is actually part of the film and not just a title. The image below is the design version of the cards -

This model was created by simply using two planes and then simply editting and manipluating the vertex to show the cards bending and as if they were being held by a player that was looking at them. Getting these cards to look as if a person was holding them was actually quite difficult as i had to experiment with cards myself and see how a person actually holds cards and how they look at them when they are on the table.

To get the faces of the cards i used Adobe Illustrator to create the look, such as the A's and the hearts. Once this was done i then used the Materails function to put the image onto the card, i then edited this using the UVM Mapping modifer, this allows the materail on a model to be moved and modifed.

Below is the rendored version of the card model -

Model - Gun

This is the model of the gun i intend to use within the trailer, it is a walther p99 and is James Bond standard pistol.

I had alot of trouble with this as i couldnt get the detail i wanted and i still believe it isnt anywhere near as good as i would like it but due to the time i have had to settle with what i've got.

This is the final version in the design stage, at first i tried to create the gun using different shapes such as a box for the handle, and i was trying to manipulate it as an editable poly, this made things difficult as it wouldnt edit the way i wanted.

After a while i tried using an the line tool and just drew an outline of the gun, i then used the cut function to create the other side of the gun and to join both parts together.

The problems i ran into whilst using this technique was that i couldnt edit single parts of the model the way i wanted, from things such as changing the colour of certain parts of the gun to not being able to edit some of the edges or vertexs. I believe that this technique is good for some models that dont need to be edited but otherwise it is a very basic thing to do and should really be avoided, again the only reason i have used this technique is simply because of the time and that i simply couldnt get the model the way i wanted it to be, if in the future i have enough time i will go over this and edit it to my liking.

Story Board

This is the story board for my James Bond trailer, for the movie Casino Royale, below is a series of images and a brief explanation of what I hope to do:

(0:01 – 0:05) – Show James Bond talking to a man then pulling out his gun and killing him.

(0:06 – 0:12) – This shows the Casino theme of the film and also shows there a lot of money at play

(0:12 – 0:16) – shows bond and a man nearly falling off a crane and then shows bond jumping between cranes then almost falling off it

(0:16 – 0:20) – shows bond shot the spiral and blood comes down, classic bond scene.

(0:20- 0:25) – Shows a clip of the title of the film emerging out of the 007 logo then disappears and the logo rearranges to show 007 again.

(0:25 – 0:29) -  I plan to show the 007 logo exploding into pieces at the shot of a bullet.

Research Boards

I have posted what i believed to be a research board before, i was mistaken, so now i have created a research board for each of the three models i have created, i am pretty sure these ones are correct this time, well i hope so anyway. The three research boards i have done are for a crane, which i will use to show James Bond jumping between, a walther p99 gun, which is James Bonds standard issue weapon and a pair of playing card aces, this is to show the casino theme within the film.

Mood Board

This is my mood board for the James Bond film i am creating the 30 seconds trailer for, Casino Royale, i hope this is correct as i have never made one before but i did search on the internet for advice and this seems like it should be correct.

Tutorials Five - Cameras

In tutorial five we learned how to use the Camera function, this ability allows the user to set up cameras which are used to create animations within 3D Studio Max. This function is also very useful to be used to see your models from a certain angle, all you do is set the camera at the angle you want to see the models from by pressing Control + C whilst in the view, this then creates the camera, once the camera has been created you can snap back to that view by simply pressing C.

This is what a camera looks like once created -

And this is what the models look like rendored from the cameras point of view -
